Editor/novelist provides editing informed by writing
and writing polished by editing

I believe all writers have blind spots that can prevent their writing from coming alive for readers. Guaranteed. Don't think yours does? That's because you can't see 'em. The depth and breadth of what you know about what's happening in your narrative causes you to read in things you've left out, and to fail to see flaws that keep readers from joining your vision. I fall victim to the same syndrome in my novels.

I've learned that I need other expert eyes to help me see my blind spots. Writing with blinders on—as we all do—cripples our ability to do what it takes to create successful fiction or non-fiction. I call it writing for effect, the art and craft of evoking images and emotions in readers' minds with how you use language and structure.
